To create podcasts there are two processes: 1) creating the podcasts in Notebook LM and 2) making appropriate edits in Canva

Step 1: Notebook LM Creation

Open Notebook LM

1. Create a new notebook, and title it the name of the course you are creating a podcast for

2. Upload the Course content document (provided by Sarah) for the course - can be found in Sample Podcast Folder

   - Note: you may need to convert the doc provided to pdf in order to upload to Notebook LM

3. In the top right corner press the pencil icon next to 'Audio Overview'

You will be creating both a short and long podcast.

For the short podcast follow the following settings:

  • Format: deep dive
  • Length: Default
  • Description: Make a podcast that is around 8-12 mins (don't go out of these time parameters). Make sure main points are discussed. This is meant to give the audience (lawyers) a glimpse into the topic and content. Make sure there is still a podcast like into and outro (eg. thanks for listening) and it is not cut short.

For the long podcast follow the following settings:

  • Format: deep dive
  • Length: Default
  • Description: Make a podcast that is around 25-30 mins- don't go outside of these parameters. Make sure all content is covered adequately and equally. The audience is lawyers who are intending on learning more about the topic. Ensure there is a short intro and outro so it doesn't start or finish abruptly. Make the outro podcast like eg. 'thanks for listening.'

4. Wait for the podcast to generate (This wtake a few minutes) and then do the following checks:

  1. is it an appropriate length
    • Eg. Is the short episode between 8-12mins, and is the long episode between 25-35 mins
  2. Is the intro and outro appropriate - e.g. no cut offs or weird phrases
  3. skim through the audio to ensure it has touched on main points
    • E.g. listen to a few seconds every minute, ensuring that what they are discussing aligns with the pdf.

5. Once you have tested that the podcasts are up to standard, download the audio by pressing the three dots.

6. Save this to the Sample Podcast Folder

Step 2: Edits in Canva

You have now created the draft audio for the podcast, however Notebook LM often makes mistakes in its pronunciation.

Listen through the podcast in full, listening out for errors.

Eg. 'NSW' instead of 'New South Wales' or 'A C C C' instead of 'A triple C'

If there is an error:

1. Open Canva and import the audio

    - Note: you may need to download from the google drive

2. Find the part that is incorrect and split the audio around this word

    - To do this make sure the cursor is at the right time, right click, and split audio.

Eg. if it mispronounced 'New South Wales' then you would split right before and after this word.

3. Scroll on the left hand side to apps and search 'AI Voice Cloning'

4. Select choose file and Upload either 'Female Voice' or 'Male Voice' depending on which speaker spoke the word incorrectly

These voice snippets can be found in

        →NAS FOLDER: \\data\lawcpd-staff\Products\Podcasts\Voicetemplates

5. next to 'Script' type the sentence around the word you want to replace - we use the whole sentence only to ensure flow.

6. Generate this and insert it over the word you are replacing. Crop using the side bars around the audio, to ensure you are only including what needs to be replaced.

- Note: it may take a few tries to generate a voice that sounds good. If it works better, replace the whole sentence of the original audio.

Note: If you are having issues with the generated audios, use pitch editors to adjust the audio.

7. Once all Errors are fixed, download it and save it into the Google Drive.

Update the Course Completion Sheet with the progress you have made

- In Columns G and H (Edits) Add the timestamps of where the edits were made

- Hyperlink the name (Column B) with the URL of the completed audio location in the google drive.
